Last night after wrestling my younger two children to sit still while my eight year old presented the family home evening lesson that she had worked so hard to prepare I thought to myself "what's a girl to do to get the little ones to sit still and listen...even for five minutes?" And then, after our activity and treat we put the kids to bed and I checked my facebook. And, I found the answer to all my "sit still and listen" woes...laundry baskets. Yes, laundry baskets. Oh, and popcorn. My friend posted this picture last night with this caption:
"FHE- put the kids in their own basket, give them a bowl of popcorn. They don't bug each other and they listen great to the lesson."
Thank you. You smart, smart ,woman. There is now more hope for all family home evening lessons of the future. Think of all the great things you could teach them if they just sit still and stay in the baskets :)

LOL, now that is funny! Look how content they are...until the popcorn runs out! :)
ReplyDeleteUmmm maybe we can eat dinner in our baskets too. I can never get my children to sit still at the dinner table and almost everyday I am cleaning up spills. LOL wouldn't that be a picture to see all of us sitting in baskets eating dinner. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeletewow what cute kids. lol. They actually didn't even finish their popcorn. I think we gave them enought to eat and made sure the lesson didn't last forever. The twins did keep standing up but they stayed in their baskets
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS GENIUS! Thanks for the tip! :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea! I am using this next week!! Thanks for posting!!
ReplyDeleteLOL... too funny! Great idea! =) (If you have enough laundry baskets!)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea Betsie!!! I'm out of this stage but showed your picture to my oldest son..who is 13 and he says "awesome!!! I am so stealing that when I have kids!"
ReplyDeleteBoxes would work as well. And Mom and Dad can join in. the just need bigger boxes.
ReplyDeleteSeriously...this is the best idea ever! I only have one 3yr old, but this is totally going to work for us! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious! I'm not sure my 9 and 12 year old boys would appreciate it much, but I love the idea!
ReplyDeleteOh this is so awesome. My kids love playing in baskets.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I love it! Wish I would have seen this 20 years ago. Do you think my 20 somethings would cooperate now? If there was chocolate involved they probably would!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!!! My girls would love this! PLUS! we would actually make it through a lesson!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome... But I don't think my teenagers would fit anymore. Very cute idea! Hey they could sit and watch conference too. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing! What a great idea! I'll be using this for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe cool thing is that it's something special. We bought new laundry baskets for each kid. They go up in te attic after fhe. So it makes it so much more exciting. At least for my kids since they love playing in the baskets. I kind of wanted join in and sit on one. :)
ReplyDeleteWow!! What genius! I think this will work for scripture study as well. The little girls love "read" too, so if we stick them in a basket with their scriptures, they may stay put and listen instead of climbing on each other. Or running around! I may post this on my blog after we try it. Thanks!
ReplyDeletemy husband follows sugardoodle on fb (who knew?)..and showed this to me...not knowing that I also follow sugardoodle AND this blog! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I totally LOVE that your husband follows Sugardoodle...awesome ;)!
