Bath Tub Painting

I've always been a big fan of free art.  I have also always been a big fan of playing with shaving cream.  Really, I love it. I love anything where kids can just relax, get messy, and have some fun.  The problem is that free art and shaving cream are just that....MESSY.  And sometimes I'm just not in the mood to wipe paint spatters off the walls, no matter how much my kids got to express themselves.

Tonight was one of those nights.  And I found the perfect solution!  It's free art, it's shaving cream, it's messy, but it doesn't leave you with a mess!  We did shaving cream painting in the bathtub! Here's what you do:

Gather your supplies.

  • a muffin tin

  • food coloring

  • shaving cream

  • pastry brushes, big spoons, etc. to paint with

Now, gather your children and let them help because mine loved this part.

Fill the muffin tins with shaving cream.
Then add a few drops of food coloring to each little pile of shaving cream.

Go crazy.  Add more than one color at a time and mix it up. :)

Now, grab some spoons and mix up your paints.  (wash off the spoon in between colors)
This is fun already.

Okay, now we're ready for the bathtub.  Just stick the muffin tin in
the water, it floats.
Get your painting tools.
And let your inner Picasso go wild.

The fun lasted a good 45 minutes so get a good book and just pull up a seat next to the tub and relax.

And when the paint runs out and the water looks like something from a radioactive swamp...your done!

Now, here's the great part!  Give your kids some plastic cups and have them ERASE their paintings with water.
Drain the tub and rinse the kids in some clean water and you are done.  And there is no mess in your house.  And your kids are clean.  And everyone is happy.  TA DA!  I love it when we are clean and happy and creative in the same hour.
